This diagram illustrates a simple direct current circuit consisting of a standard battery and light bulb. A direct current means that electricity only flows in one direction. The cylindrical battery is connected to the light bulb by two wires, one on either node. An electrical current flows from the negative node, into the halogen bulb, and then back to the battery via the positive node. If any section of the circuit were to be disconnected, then the current would cease to flow as the electricity would have no path to travel.
