This diagram depicts the core of the Earth. Between the outer atmosphere and the molten core of the planet, there are several distinct layers including the crust and mantle. The outer core is molten metal but the inner core is solid. The Earth’s crust is very thin in comparison to the other layers. A cross section of the lithosphere reveals that it is divided into the continental and oceanic crust, located just above the asthenosphere.
